3 Easy Homemade Sweet Potato Baby Puree

sweet potato baby recipes

When it comes to raising my baby girl, one of the things that gives me great pleasure is that fact that I make her homemade foods.  I know that I am providing her with the best nutrition possible and I know what her baby food comes from and what ingredients it contains.  Plus, all her food is made with LOVE.  Sweet potatoes was one of the first foods she tried but didn't like. A few weeks later she loved it.

Sweet potatoes are one of the best first foods for a baby.  In fact it is so versatile that it can be used at anytime and can be mixed with other veggies.  Sweet potatoes come from the root family of vegetables and distantly related to potatoes.  They are have vitamin A, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B-6, iron, vitamin C and are rich in the antioxidant, beta-carotene.

Before going into the recipes, I want to tell you about my favorite baby gadgets or baby food gadget; it's the Baby Bullet. Before my baby girl Olivia was to start with solid foods I did alot of research on not only foods but also the needed accessories to make this first time baby food adventure a success. This Baby Bullet seemed perfect and six months later I still love it and works for everything I need. The best part was that I could use this blender exclusively for Olivia's food and that it even could grind steel cut oats which was her first solid food. Along with the Baby Bullet I needed silcone bibs which I love because I can just wash after every meal in the sink and these storage containers.

Sweet Potato Puree + 6 months

Sweet potato puree is so easy to make!  If this is the first time giving your baby sweet potato I would suggest starting with one small, peeled sweet potato.  Just wash, peel, chop into cubes or slices and boil until tender.  Let cool and blend into a puree.  A small sweet potato should make about 3-4 servings.

Sweet Potato and Apple Puree + 9 months

1 peeled and corded organic red apple (cut into squares)
1 small peeled sweet potato (cut into squares)
Optional – dash of cinnamon

After peeling the apple and sweet potato, cut into cubes and boil until both are tender.  Let cool and blend together.  Add some of the boiled water for more of a thinner consistency.  At this point you can also add a dash of cinnamon if older than 9 months.
